Ratcheds Redux

by Fred Prout

Now that the weather is getting a bit toasty inland, tourists are visiting en masse. Rental houses and motels are chock full of visitors. Local merchants are opening extra hours to accommodate them. Great to see. Now for the latest news.

First of all, I am glad to report that Ratcheds has a new summer constable. Francis Muldoon is Patrick’s brother, and, former NYPD partner of Gunther Toody. Francis is providing a dummy police car at the city limits to slow down speeders. It’s his and Gunther’s former Car 54. We appreciate him joining the force for the summer season. By the way, PLEASE don’t tell anyone that it’s a dummy car. Continue reading

Marilyn Eykel, in Memoriam

She was known as the “rock painting lady” and many Timber Valley residents were recipients of her beautiful rocks.  Marilyn and her companion Sally Hankins split their time between Talent, Oregon, where she had a home, Timber Valley and Arizona.

Marilyn passed away March 19, 2022, in Talent, Oregon.  Her son, Eric Eykel from Ft. Meyers, Florida was at her bedside with Sally when Marilyn’s year and a half fight with breast cancer was over.

Marilyn was born March 26, 1942, in Rochester, New York.  She graduated as a Registered Nurse in Albany, New York. She married Paul and his beautiful little three-year-old daughter and they had a son, Eric while she continued working as a nurse.

After a few years, she decided to change professions and became a Real Estate Broker where she was very successful.  At age 55 she chose to retire, bought a new RV, and advertised for a traveling companion.  Marilyn responded to the ad and the two then traveled with the intent of finding a home on the West Coast.    They became Escapees in 1996 and July 11, 2008, they received their lot at Timber Valley and became residents.

Marilyn is survived by her son, Eric, two grandchildren, and her companion Sally. Sally plans to continue RVing and living in Timber Valley.

Ratcheds By The Sea

by Fred Prout

The first town meeting of the new year was a doozy. As soon as Mayor, and town doc, Ben Dover opened the meeting, police chief, Patrick Muldoon and officer Gunther Toody reported on a disturbance at The Cave. It seems a packed house was enjoying the music of Colonel Dave and the Norman Invaders when a tourist shouted out a request to “ do some Streisand “. Colonel Dave took offense and made a feline reference to the tourist. Things quickly got out of hand, and owner, Robin Banks had to call for help. Thanks to Patrick and Gunther for defusing a difficult situation. In return for no arrests and anonymity, the tourists agreed to clean up and pay for damages. Continue reading

What Goes Around

By Fred Prout

Some memories stay with you forever. Some fade away, half forgotten, until something pokes them with a stick to waken them. Like a dormant hornet’s nest. Ready to start buzzing and attacking your brain. Insisting on getting you to revive them and getting to the front part of your brain waiting for release. This one not only has the buzzing, but it is accompanied by the blaring of calliope music. Continue reading

provide registration fees for our representative(s) to attend.
There will be educational and fun seminars, entertainment and so much
more. You will have plenty of time to enjoy many of the planned events

about the Escapee Club to which you belong, and enjoy the camaraderie
of others experiencing the same.
