Rita and I were slow to embrace high tech. We, like many of you, were Luddites. Progress? Who needs it. Of course, all the gadgets on our vehicles were there, so, might as well use them. Satellite radio for five bucks a month when we were traveling? Sure. Good deal. Listen to “our music “.

Cell phones became a must because we couldn’t find a long enough cord to reach the motor home when we did two hundred miles a day. A couple of times stuff happened on the road. So, a necessity. Good old basic flip phones were certainly good enough. Who needed more? Continue reading

Covid Crisis Worsens Again; Masks Are Back

Potheads Returns

Here’s the latest! Great news! By popular request.

Many of you have been asking about the return of the PotHeads group. Here it is. As of August 17th, the PotHeads will return. We will be meeting monthly on the 3rd Tuesday at 1:30 in the dining room.

This group was started 2 years ago, before COVID, and was very popular. It was created to be a support group for those who had an instant pot and used it; those who were thinking about getting an instant pot and those who still had theirs in the box and just wanted to learn more.

Some of you will remember the samples of chocolate covered peanuts which used the slow cooker part of the instant pot. Or maybe you’ll remember Gene Stalnaker’s hamburger stroganoff that he made and was sampled. Both were big hits. Well, there wasn’t any left to take home.

Mark your calendar, reserve the time and come join us. Bring your favorite recipe or samples are gratefully accepted. See you there!

Blackberries galore!

The Landscape Committee members were hard at work on Friday morning clearing out the stingers in the blackberry vines to make it easier and safer for you to pick those yummy berries. Thank our volunteers when you see them. You will be able to identify those wonderful, dedicated workers by their battle scars and poison oak rashes.

Note: The berries are beautiful and ripening very fast. With the heat and lack of water the berries may not last as long as a normal berry season, so don’t wait too long.

Remember, the early bird gets the ‘berries’. Or something like that.

Cancer Support Group Starting Up at Timber Valley

There are many people in the park who have been faced with CANCER – either their own or perhaps their partner’s or child’s. The journey is a challenging one under the best of circumstances so Shirley Smedley and Jill Goldman are organizing a Cancer Support Group.

Whether you are currently facing the challenge or have a history to share – you will make a difference. Please join us Friday, August 6th at 10am at Site #9 on Creekside (Shirley & Ken Smedley) for our first meeting when we will develop a plan for when, where and how. Hope to see you there. Sutherlin Water Restrictions Relaxed

For the past week or so, City of Sutherlin has asked us to reduce our water usage while they did some repairs to a water treatment plant.  Timber Valley really did our part.  For the last week we were able to reduce our water usage by 25% or more.  We believe a good portion of that reduction was from reduced irrigation around the Park.

Now that the repairs have been made, the restrictions have been reduced.  Because we’re in the worst drought in recorded history, they are still asking everyone to voluntarily keep water use to a minimum.  So, for example, while you can wash your cars and rigs again, just be smart about it.  Use a self-closing nozzle and maybe extend the time between washings.  And, perhaps, some of your plantings could get by just fine with a reduced watering schedule.
