One Response to Clean the Grill

  1. Deborah DeYoung (Lot 101) says:

Thank you for your lovely remembrance, Ruby. My dad was an avid reader of obituaries because that is where the extraordinary lives of people (who may otherwise seem pretty ordinary) are finally told, he told me. We often swapped memorable ones – and all the time and care you took admirably capture some of his happiest times.

At his urging, I joined SKPs and got my lot in 2021. The pandemic let me work remotely from Oregon for a few months then and in 2022. I’d looked forward to spending more time with him after I retire this year. Man plans, God laughs eh?

I’ll especially miss our coffee-at-dawn tradition – the magical time when all of the day’s possibilities seemed to him within reach (and seemed to me to require more Joe). Saturday C&D’s new moniker is a fitting – and very sweet – tribute.

My dad rarely encountered strangers – only friends he hadn’t yet made. Knowing he found so many at Timber Valley is a great comfort at this sad time.
