Doctor Seuss

A creative work by Fred Prout

It seems like everybody’s getting mad
What used to be good is now seen as bad
The things you used to read to your child
Are now getting everyone terribly riled
They’re making a noose to kill Doctor Seuss
But what did he do
I’m asking of you
If you look hard enough
You’ll find plenty of stuff
That once was okay
But now is “NO WAY”
Internet porn is allowed
With from one to a crowd
But they’re making a noose to kill Doctor Seuss
I don’t like to complain
But would someone explain
Why we willingly buy
Political lies
And then get a noose
To kill Doctor Seuss?

Good job! I can still recite most of Dr Seuss ABC’s. Maybe people just have too much time during Covid to wreak havoc.

  12. Donna says:

No one is cancelling Dr. Seuss.

There are six books that HIS OWN ESTATE are ceasing to publish because of overtly racist content.

They are using them as a way to say “this is the heritage that we came from, and we have learned and are doing better now.” Six books out of many isn’t cancelling, it’s learning. It’s like when you rocked whatever horrible fashion was trendy when you were 30 and at 60 you’re like “phew, glad I got over that tragic look”!

Dr. Seuss, and most of his work, is alive and well. NOT cancelled. Six books are no longer being published.

It’s the right thing to do.

I’ll ignore the politics and say “Fred, I’m so proud of you.” And to think you had to be talked into writing for the web! You’re a star!

  14. Terry says:

Still giggling Fred. I’ve read every Dr Suess book and can honestly say that not one of them was racist. Didn’t know that word nor its definition at that age. I was completely entertained, my imagination was tickled and my laughter made my Mom smile as she knew where I was and what I was doing. Thanks Fred! You are my adult Dr Suess!

  15. While I appreciate Fred’s talent for rhyme … I also appreciate Donna’s comments.

  16. Shirlyn says:

  17. Arvilla says:

Yea for Fred, making us laugh.
