Social Hour November 3, 3 p.m. in the Clubhouse

This week will feature our own Chef Denis Perkins. No, he will not be cooking for
us; we will be the ones to bring anything to eat while we listen to one of the things
that is so special about this man.

With a slide show, Denis will tell us about his 20-year Navy and cooking experience
on a submarine. Can you imagine preparing a shopping list and cooking for a group of hungry men in a small kitchen? Can you imagine not being able to look out of the window? Was he ever involved in military action on the sub?

We have lots of questions to ask this special man. Do not miss the opportunity to honor Denis and hear his experiences.

Chair Yoga Friday, November 3rd. 10 a.m. will replace the usual QiGong will be led by Denise Elliott O’Brien. Sharon Elliott’s kid. Denise has studied and practiced Yoga for 25 years. She studied at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Massachusetts and is certified in basic and advanced Yoga. Her studies and certifications have included;
Lee Albert, Pain relief
Terry Roth (international Yoga Therapist), Healthy Spine.
David Emerson, Trauma
Joy Devi, Heart, Cancer, Cardiac
Dean Ornish, Gentle and Advanced Yoga
Craig Hanaurer, Kids Yoga
Harris Lender, Kidding Around Yoga
Richard Miller, Yoga Nidra
Loren Fishman MD, Yoga for Osteoporosis

Employment; West Virginia University Medicine. Wheeling Hospital currently where she leads classes for all ages and abilities including children, and the elderly.

Getting Old Ain’t for Sissies

“Getting old ain’t for sissies”. How many times have we heard that
phrase? Of course we always thought it applied to someone else – not us.
When did we cross that age barrier into Senior Citizen? Just yesterday we
were young, strong, agile and able to leap tall buildings. Our bodies were
still trim and our minds steel sharp. Old age was somewhere in the far
distant future.

OH NO! It’s here and it snuck up on little cat feet. It started with
small memory glitches but you didn’t pay much attention because all your
friends were experiencing the same things. What was I going to do? How
did the car keys get in the refrigerator? Is the grocery list still on the table
by your chair when you are at the store? When did you need to start making
lists anyway?

Then came the physical or lack thereof. Achy joints that take a bit
longer to get moving. Balance not what it was. Shorter walks because well
the dog was tired. Knee replacements. Hip replacements. New glasses
because they are making road signs smaller and why are people whispering?
My hearing is just fine. OOPs, I laugherd and peed a little or sometimes a
lot. Depends aren’t funny anymore when it is you.

You get a new dog and it is like having an over energenic toddler.
How do grandparents end up raising their grandkids? The dog needs
feeding, taking outside and LOTS of attention. You want to sit quietly,
playing games on your tablet (they say it is good for your mind) but the dog
wants your attention and tries to work your tablet. How many times can a
ball roll under furniture? The dog demands you get out of your chair, on
hands and knees to rescue it. Note that he doesn’t help you get back up. Did
you just see that dog laughing? Maybe he is an evil conspititor aiming to
keep you moving. You are sure your doctor is in cahoots with the dog to see
your cardio health is taken care of.

Yep! Getting old ain’t for sissies. The positive is that with age comes
wisdom – if you can only remember what it is. Now where is that dog? Did
you leave him outside? Maybe he’s in the refrigerator!

The Ad-Hoc Committee on Lot Relinquishment has generated proposed Procedures for Lot Relinquishment, Exchange and Trade. Park members and the Board will be discussing this at the next Board Agenda Meeting in November.

Social Hour Speaker this Friday

Social Hour Friday, October 27
This Social Hour is going to be really special!! The Douglas County Sherriff K9 policeman will be our program. These dogs are assigned to a deputy and live with the deputy and his family for about 6 to 8 years, and then the K9 is retired. The deputy has the first option to keep the dog as their pet.

Today, there are six teams. Dogs ride in the patrol with their handlers to respond quickly to calls. Dogs are trained to do different jobs. Some of the training includes detecting drugs, tracking humans, arresting suspects, clearing buildings, and taking part in public demonstrations. This should be very entertaining, a learning session, and FUN. Come, socialize, and enjoy snacks inc wine.

Reminder, Please… Don’t Disregard Doggie Doos

The Office received a phone call from a very irritated and upset member. The issue was her husband who had walked in the greenway behind their RV had stepped in doggy doo … which should have been picked up by the pet parent! He tried to clean off his shoes, but that didn’t completely work. He walked into their RV and tracked the mess throughout the home. This situation was not only NASTY, but  totally disrespectful and lazy for a pet parent to not take care of the issue. Responsible pet parents should always carry bags with them, pick up and dispose of their pet’s bodily functions!

Penelope Hepworth, In Memoriam

The Timber Valley flag was lowered in honor of Penelope Hepworth, formerly of lot 204, who passed away on October 6, 2023. Robert and Penelope Hepworth purchased their membership in Timber Valley on December 4, 2012. They spent their time in Timber Valley and also in Kent, Washington. Robert passed away July 9, 2017.

Penelope remained at Timber Valley after Robert’s passing. She had many careers over her lifetime. She was a business owner, florist and even a performing clown. She loved her beloved dog (pet), Angus, who recently preceded her in passing. Serving on a committee with Penelope in the early days one was amazed by her intelligence and calmness. Penelope is survived by her daughters, Kristen Bruhahn and Michelle Geddes, both of Washington.
