The Timber Valley SKP RV Park is a 206 unit 55+ RV Co-op affiliated with the Escapees RV Club. Each member of the co-op holds a lifetime lease on a large RV lot. When a member is not in the park, that lot can be put into the rental pool so that visiting Escapees members may rent an available lot by the day, week, or month.Categories

Fun With Dick and Jane

WARNING! You may find one or two slight exaggerations or factual fractures in this article. The people, however, do exist . All alleged facts may or may not be true.
My friends are fun people. Let’s call them Dick and Jane. They live in what is called The United Kingdom . The UK for short. Across the Atlantic Ocean. Famous for Sirs and Ladies, small cars and Doc Martin. The Telly show, not the shoes. Celtic Women, Irish whisky and Loch Lomond. For identification purposes I will tell you that Dick and I share a strain of lunacy and weirdness. Jane and Willie share a compatible niceness that usually offsets the two of us.
I got an email from them the other day letting me know what they have been up to since we last saw each other in Yachats. They had a wonderful time visiting Ontario and Quebec Canada. Also the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York State. A little bit of New England. Their future plans include visiting Egypt, Turkey, some of the Scandinavian countries and the Netherlands. Not sure about Greenland. Of course nobody’s sure about Greenland. I know that in the past they have been to France, Italy and Spain. So they are seasoned travelers. I know that they are not bragging or anything, but, I got a little defensive and sent the following.
Wow! You guys have had an amazing year. Can’t wait for you to come back to Oregon. We really miss you both. Although we certainly can’t compete with your adventures, we try to do our best. Financially, I have done quite well. My total winnings playing bingo at The Home come to a grand total of four dollars and seventeen cents. Somebody confused pennies with dimes. Still time to add to that. I also won four candy bars at the Halloween party. Three are left. So far. Willie and I led the Cinco de Mayo wolf howl where we served margaritas to the residents and fakearitas to the youngsters from the dining room. We had over thirty people outside howling at the full moon which didn’t come for another week. And three hours later than the celebration.
We have many activities lined up at The Home. At Christmas time we had a variety of groups singing Christmas carols. Most of those attending were able to stay awake for most of the carols. New Year’s Eve party got off to a rousing start at four pm. The one man band was terrific for the two hours he was here. Willie and I were among the dancers. The other people were very considerate and stayed off the dance floor so we could have plenty of room to maneuver. The fruit punch was an excellent vintage and was well received. Reduced sugar cookies were appreciated by all. A few of us stayed up to watch the ball drop at midnight. In New York. Three hours earlier.
We keep both vehicles at the ready so we can get to our medical appointments. Don’t want to have the doctors waiting because of a dead battery. We usually get there early so we can feel sorry for the people in the waiting room who all look worse than us. The staff is always appreciative of our recognizing their voices and calling them by name when they verify the appointment. Next month we will update you on medical waiting rooms . Just to whet your appetite.
So much more that we could mention, but, I don’t want you to think we are trying to minimize your adventures. Stay well and please keep us tuned in to your fun stuff . We love reading about them. Look forward to seeing you soon.

In Memoriam: Madeline “Matt” Grant
Timber Valley is saddened by the passing of Madeline “Matt Grant of Lot 199 on January 29, 2026.
Matt had gone home to Mississippi for Christmas where she remained until her passing. She was surrounded by her family and husband. She was born in the Mississippi Delta in Spanish Fort on May 15, 1943. She was a woman of faith who lived that faith all the days of her life. Her home was a safe place for her children’s friends and anyone who needed it. She was beloved by the many people she encountered in her lifetime.
Matt was married in 1961 to Lee Cheney and had three children, Alan, Jason and Charla. She then married Ken Grant February 1, 1990. They were married for 36 years and had many adventures traveling the country in their RV. Matt had retired from Waterways Experiment Station after 25 years and then again from Superior Mini Storage in Nevada. Matt and Ken got their lot in Timber Valley on November 8, 2011. Matt served on the Communication Committee and with Jacks and Jills. She was very active when her health permitted. She struggled with many health issues but was very private about them. Many remember her as very caring and being there when needed without being intrusive.
Matt loved Blue Plate Mayonnaise and had it shipped to her here in Oregon. Her ashes are to be kept in a Blue Plate Mayonnaise Jar until they are spread on the lake by her daughter’s home.
Matt is survived by her husband, Ken, her two sons, Alan and Jason Cheney and daughter Charla Bufkin, brothers, sisters and grandchildren. Her passing is a great loss to those who knew and loved her. Ken will be returning to the park to be near his brother Bob Grant of Lot 118.

Norm Sherman Memorial Coming

A memorial for Norm, an original member, will
be held in the clubhouse in May, when snowbirds have returned.

Board Meeting Cancellations
Per the Bylaws, Board meetings are optional in November, December, January and February. The February Agenda Workshop scheduled for February 12, 2026 and the Board Meeting scheduled for February 19, 2026 have been canceled.
In Memoriam: Norman Fitch

Timber Valley is saddened at the passing of Norman Fitch, Lot 126 on January 24, 2026.
Norman was born on August 24, 1932. He started dating Carolyn Pitts in 1948 and they married in 1950. He studied at a bible college in Minnesota and became a minister in 1958. In 1975 he became a district rep for Village Missions. He served in Sitkum, Oregon, Tensed, Idaho, Dunlap, Iowa, Kremmling, Colorado, Bandon, Oregon, and Sunnyside, Oregon. He traveled in a motor home while serving Village Missions. Carolyn passed away January 9, 1989 after a short illness. Norman then reunited with Phyllis and they were married July 7, 1990. They continued the mission work traveling in the motor home. After retirement they got their lot in Timber Valley March 29, 2006. Norman performed Memorial services in the clubhouse for members who had passed.
Phyllis passed away October 11, 2025 here at home with the care of Norman’s daughter, Roxie. After Phyllis passed, Norman’s health declined. He was able to stay at home here in Timber Valley due to the loving care of his two daughters, Roxie and Jackie. He is remembered as a loving, caring person, a good husband and father.
He is survived by his two daughters, Roxie Fitch and Jackie Fitch. Roxie remains here in the park on lot 120.
