New Freezer Needed

Hey there everyone. Jack’s and Jill’s is looking for a freezer in good working condition. If you know where we can get one reasonably priced or donated, please let me know. If you don’t know of one, maybe you could help by donating $10 towards the purchase. If we have to purchase brand new, we’re looking at $700-$1000.

New Bookstore and Coffee Shop In Town

Hopefully you will find this newsworthy and add a notice to our Timber Valley website. We had a small independent bookstore-cafe that was frequented by a number of our Timber Valley Residents. It has been closed, I guess for almost two years, because of a fire. It has finally reopened and has a new name, Read the Room. It is a comfortable inviting spot with a diverse collection of books not to mention coffee, tea and espresso. Currently they are displaying 12 of my original, framed oil paintings. They also have a program where store credit is given for those who donate books. More details are available at the shop.

Thank you to all that took part in the Labor Day festivities!

We had a rousing World Series of Beanbag Baseball game in the afternoon. Hosted by Crazy Ron the Umpire and Carolyn Pennington. The men’s team “Stay’n Alive” came from behind to win 12 to 11.

Then we had more than 70 people for the baked potato dinner, potatoes all prepared by Ray and Janice Vaughn. Plus, there was a wide variety of potato toppings brought by all.

The fundraiser for CARE was a success, raising over $1000. There was a generous amount of items donated and bid on, for the silent auction and Crazy Ron the auctioneer did a terrific job of upping the bids on all of the auctioneer items.

All that stayed to help clean up was so greatly appreciated. Many hands make short work!
Again, thank you to all that helped make our day fantastic!

In Memoriam: Curt Parmer, lot 95

In Memoriam:  Curtis (Curt) Parmer
    Timber Valley was saddened to hear that Curtis (Curt) Parmer of Lot 95 passed away on August 31, 2025 in Roseburg, Oregon.
    Curt was born August 20, 1936 in Greenwood, Arkansas.  He served in the U S Navy from 1954 to 1958 on a mine sweeper.  He met his future bride, Caroline (Carol) at church.  Curt sang in the choir and Carol later joined the choir.  They were married in 1967 in California where they both lived.  He worked at Purex before they moved to Texas.  They lived in Tomball, Texas and Curt worked for River Plantation in Maintenance for the next 22 years.  They came to Timber Valley on June 25, 2010.  Curt was active in the park with the Landscape Committee and on the irrigation system.
             He is survived by his wife Carol and daughter Renee of Tomball, Texas.  he was preceded in death by his other daughter Sherril in 2022.  He is remembered as a good man, husband and father.  Carol plans to remain in the park.

The Silent P

Transient observations of a couple of life’s absurdities. 
This piece has absolutely, positively no reference to one am wake up calls and not wearing hearing aids. Promise!!!
It is possible to do two things at the same time. Reading, observing and thinking for example. About the English language for one. I have violated at least half of the numerous rules of use. Sometimes intentionally. Sometimes not. 
I read a lot. I have battled with the letter G for a long time. There are stories and nursery rhymes about gnomes. Before we talk about them,  I would like to know how an H got into rhymes. Were there leftover Hs from British authors who wrote about Enery Iggins?  I guess if you don’t use it you lose it. 
So, gnomes added a G. What happened to all those other Gs? One theory is that someone  created the word phlegm  to describe your morning hawck. Come to think of it ,why start the word with ph ? Did we overuse the F word to the point of extinction? No I don’t think so. But,  I digress. Reach into the box of extra Gs and create phlegm if you must. Not the morning kind.
Now we get to the letter P. It is sounded by Pursing the liPs and Pushing air to make a P sound. Well,  I guess not always. Cause we have what is called a silent P. One of my favorites is Psycho.  I don’t know why it’s one of my favorites. Maybe I hear it a lot. There are also real things and Pseudo things. I think that imPlies make believe. Like Pseudo leather. Or Pseudo food. Like Parsley or  sPam. There’s even a Pill made with what is called Psyllium. It makes you PooP.
I’m sure there are many other things I could bring uP but I’ll let you work on these confusing words. Just so you can become really Proficient in this exercise try to think of other examPles. I would like you to start every morning with a silent P. Then move on to other words with lost or extra letters. It’s not just rhetoric. Rhetoric?  There’s gotta be ruffly a bazillion laffs to be found. I just know they’re there. Ya know? Oh, a silent K. Well…
