In Memoriam: Hank David

Harry “Hank” David, born in Elko, Nevada in 1945, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on October 8th after a courageous battle with chronic kidney disease. Hank also had polycystic kidney disease, a condition that is almost always hereditary. In his case, no one in his family had ever been diagnosed with it, leaving years of uncertainty about its cause. Recent testing through the VA finally provided answers, showing that his illness was the result of toxic water exposure during his time at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. This clarity brought his family a sense of understanding and marked the turning point in securing his full disability benefits, recognizing the sacrifice he made in service to his country. It also affirmed the courage with which he faced his long battle.

Hank leaves behind a legacy defined by adventure, hard work, and unwavering devotion to his family, his country, and his community. Known for his warmth, kindness, and nonjudgmental nature, he made everyone around him feel accepted and valued.

A proud veteran, Hank served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1965 to 1969. His time stationed at Camp Lejeune and Okinawa reflected the strength, discipline, and dedication that remained hallmarks of his life.

Hank was the beloved husband of Ann David, sharing nearly 48 years of a deeply partnered and loving marriage. Together they built a vibrant blended family, raising four children: Dan David, Debbie Davis, Jim Branch, and John Branch. He is also survived by his sister, Sally David of Clear Lake Oaks, California, along with five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.

Hank and Ann raised their family in the beautiful Owens Valley, spending many meaningful years in Bishop and Big Pine. An avid outdoorsman, Hank shared his love of nature with his children through countless backpacking and camping trips. He was happiest on the water, fishing and boating.

After his military service, Hank dedicated more than 30 years to the phone company before retiring. True to his entrepreneurial spirit, he and Ann later moved to Washington, where they owned and operated a marine electronics store in Port Angeles, blending his technical expertise with his love for the sea.

In 2012, Hank and Ann embraced a new chapter as fulltime RVers. In 2018, they found their true home at Timber Valley SKP RV Park in Sutherlin, Oregon. Hank cherished the RV lifestyle and cared deeply for the park’s future and its residents, proudly serving on the Board of Directors in recent years.

Honoring his wishes, Hank was cremated. His family will gather at a later date to celebrate his life and spread his ashes in the beautiful places he loved. He will be deeply missed by his family, lifelong friends, and his Timber Valley neighbors.

Dear Timber Valley Family,

I want to express my deepest, most heartfelt gratitude to everyone in our wonderful community for the overwhelming outpour of love following the passing of my husband, Hank.

We truly are like one big family here, where everybody takes care of everybody. During one of the darkest times of my life, that family bond has been my steady strength. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for every single warm hug, beautiful card, and lovely floral arrangement you sent to honor Hank’s memory.

Knowing that Hank was loved by so many, and feeling your strength surrounding me, has brought me immense comfort. Because of the incredible love and support you have shown me, I want you all to know that I fully intend to stay right here. There is no place I would rather be. Timber Valley is a wonderful place to call home.

With all my love and appreciation,
