Art Hampton celebrates his 94th on June 18

Longtime friends Art Hampton (#94) (left) and Gene Schrader (#70) share a laugh at the Timber Valley Board Agenda meeting earlier this week.

Former Timber Valley member Maxine Riddell called Jimmy Smith and me on Monday night to let us know that Art will be celebrating his 94th birthday on June 18. So if you see the smiling Gemini, give him a big hug. And by the way, Maxine, we miss you lots. Please stop by and visit the park.

Big turnout for Memorial Day Picnic

The weather was perfect and scores of Timber Valley members and guests turned out in Snoopy’s Meadow for the potluck Memorial Day Picnic.

The two recently acquired 10′ by 10′ awnings provided much appreciated additional shade for the first picnic of the season. Special thanks to Art Hampton and the Bocce Ball crew for setting up the picnic tables and chairs. And, to all the other volunteers.

Music was provided by (from left) David Burns (AWL), Ruby and Ed Bonham (#175) and Nathan Brown (#5)

(Below) Gwen Prohaska (#93) shows her skills on the popular Bocce Ball court.

Next picnic is July 4th.

Big turn out to hear Debbie Hamilton give an ‘Update on developments in Sutherlin’

More than 40 Timber Valley RV Park leaseholders and a few visitors turned out on Friday, 5/11, afternoon to hear Debbie Hamilton, Sutherlin’s community outreach director, give an update on a number of activities and developments happening in our area.

Debbie reports that hanging flower baskets will return with the new light poles on Central in early June.

The road construction on Central Avenue is due to begin in late July and be completed by Blackberry Festival in August. According to plans, most of the work will be completed at night, for less traffic problems during daytime hours.

Waste water treatment plant construction begins this summer. (Pre-construction meeting is May 16, 10 a.m., Community Center Meeting Room.) Design planning for the widening of Valentine Street is set to happen soon with work to start in May 2019.

Biggest news was the potential development of Oregon Only Resort on 90-acres off I-5 exit 135. Plans include a hotel, conference center, amusement park, shopping village and interpretative museum. Looking at a 2021 completion target.

If you missed the update, go to City of Sutherlin website … and check out the newsletter  in upper right.
