The New Member Orientation Committee and the Board of Directors are holding a Workshop to discuss the possible new procedures for prospective members to get on the Active Wait List. The Workshop will be held in the big room at the Clubhouse on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 1:00. All members are invited. Copies of the new procedures are available in the office or online.

Could someone please explain what “….prospective member’s suitability for membership…” and “prospective member is a good fit for Timber Valley…” actually means? These statements are about as subjective as you could make them. These must be measurable and relevant as to not be discriminatory in any way. These criteria can become an issue when you have individuals who have not received any professional training in interviewing. It’s not as easy as asking questions when there are personalities involved. I AM concerned. Without intent, this could affect Timber Valley’s reputation and change from welcoming to becoming exclusive. Is that really the reputation TV wants in the Escapee world? I think not. Does anyone have any idea how many of the 141 people on the AWL now have actually been in the park? And according to these possible new rules, they may have to be interviewed in person before they get on the list. Seriously??? Once again, I’m really concerned. I’d be at this meeting if I could, but I’m traveling.
Thank you. Very well stated.
We agree with Donna. An untrained person interviewing only has to say something derogatory without knowing it can cause a serious situation.
I am on the wait list. However, we have seen/met some people from the park in our travels who met the criteria of “prospective member’s suitability for membership…” and “prospective member is a good fit for Timber Valley. They are already in the co-op you have.
Something to consider is maybe a questionnaire you include in your initial papers you send out to Prospective members. Also a have the prospective members sign a contract as to what will be required and expected of them of when they join your co-op. Thirdly you may want to change the age to which you can apply to the park. Currently you must be 55 to become a member of the co-op and move in. Change the rules to be “you must be 55 or older to apply to the park.” No more, sign up at 50 (still working) and get in at 55.
As I understand it, this park is for the full-timer RVer who is getting older and needs a final roost. And who still wants to travel. I’m 71 wife is 75. We have been on the road since January 2015. We got our first 5th wheel in 2011.
If you want me to clarify my opinions, just email me.
On further inflection, I’m asking if the TV attorney has seen this document. The State of Oregon has housing rules and regulations. While most generally it covers renters there are portions of the laws that cover condos and HOAs.
Donna. Thank you for your comments. This is a proposal that is only in the discussion phase. Before anything like this would be implemented, it will go to our attorney for review. Thom Hoch #31
I also agree with Donna. Our Park is subject to the Oregon statutes of tenant/landlord laws and must be careful not to discriminate in our new member process either in document or verbal form.
Volunteering is an elective and free-choice act of an individual or group freely giving time and labor for an organization or community. Requiring someone to give their time and labor freely to an organization is not volunteerism it becomes more like a rule or regulation. Park ByLaws, rules and regs would have to be changed for this requirement. Volunteerism must be encouraged and the needs fully understood for people to freely give their time.
People look forward to Park membership for many different reasons and may not have spent a great deal of time in RV travel. It can be a plus to keep our definition of appropriate member open enough to include people who have not spent years travelling in an RV.
