THE WISH

A little boy sat by a window on a summer night.
Look Grandma a star he said, the only one in sight
A wishing star she said for you,
so make yourself a wish or two
And maybe all your wishes will come true.

The man on TV said there is a war.
I don’t think that’s the same game that I play on the floor.
My soldiers don’t have little boys
and they don’t die cause they’re just toys.
The game’s over when they’re put away
.
I wish we could all get along
I wish we all knew right from wrong.
I wish someone could help me understand.
I wish my Mom and Dad were here
Cause I can’t sleep when they’re not here
And I wish that all the soldiers could come home.
And I wish there could be peace on earth again.

When children fight they take away our toys
When grownups fight we all get hurt and they make much more noise
And people die and children cry
And no one seems to wonder why
And no one really wins the game at all.

They say this country’s very far away
I don’t know much about it only what they say
Do they have little boys there too
Who wish on stars just like I do
And wish there could be peace on earth again

I wish we all could get along
I wish we all knew right from wrong
I wish someone could help me understand
I wish my Mom and Dad were here
Cause I can’t sleep when they’re not near.
I wish all the soldiers could come home
I wish there could be peace on earth again.

Cookie is a Marine wife, mother and grandmother. She wrote this about 2000 in the midst of the Afghan War. It is on two of her CD’s and she gets a lot of requests for it.
