Do you like chili? I like chili. Do you make the best chili in 3 states? If you make good chili, sweet, white, traditional, spicey, mild or whatever, bring a pot to share with everyone and see how yours stacks up to others.
The Sutherlin Fire Department will happily come and be the official tasting judges. You can buy sample bowls 3/$1 or a full-size bowl for $3. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.

information and how you can help out. We need volunteers to help with set-up,
clean-up and collecting money.

It’s almost Spring!! Time to start planning your garden!
The Garden Group welcomes you to join us in the Timber Valley Garden for the 2025 season. There are raised gardens available to both members and renters, for an $80 rental fee for the season.
Besides the delicious, organic vegetables (and blueberries), we welcome you to join in the laughter and beautiful sunsets that we all enjoy.
One of the many special features of our garden is how we support each other. If you are traveling, or are new to gardening, there is always someone to help you.

Effective in March 2025, the Agenda Workshop (the second Thursday of each month) and the Board Meeting (the third Thursday of each month) will now begin at 10:00AM. Please mark your calendars accordingly.
Therefore, the Agenda Workshop this month, Thursday, March 13, and the Board Meeting, Thursday, March 20, as well as all future Agenda Workshops and Board Meetings will begin at 10:00AM.
I hope this change will give more members the opportunity to attend these meetings.

It’s a new chapter. Turn the page. Our lives are made up of stages or phases which we accept gracefully or perhaps not at all. I think “pages in a book” may be a better way of putting it.
I’ve decided it was time for me to open a new chapter. I’m perfectly healthy, Thank you. Can fend for myself. But I’ve grown tired of the cooking, cleaning, fixing routine. It’s time while I’m in good enough shape to enjoy what Independent Living offers, to plunge in, start a new chapter. Yes, I intend to plunge in and come up blowing bubbles.
I don’t have to shop, cook, clean-up and I still get to enjoy three meals a day. A housekeeper too? Oh, Joy.
“They” say, (the omnipotent they): but you lose freedom. Lose independence, people wither up and die after they enter “one of Those places”.
I can only say I never imagined withering up could feel so good! The page has been turned.

Our Timber Valley Community was saddened by the news that our member, Ted Booth, passed away last Friday, February 21, 2025. He was 90 years old.
Graydon W. Booth, Jr., Lot 100, known by most of us as “Ted”, passed away February 21, 2025 at the age of 90 years. Ted moved into Timber Valley on June 01, 2010. Ted resided here at Timber Valley with his buddy Pug “Max.” He was very active in the community of Sutherlin, driving transportation vehicles for Dial-A-Ride and received many awards for his hours of service. Ted loved his candy, visiting the Office and proclaiming, “I’m a non-recovering chocoholic” as he picked his favorite candy from the bowl. And most of the dogs in the Park knew where Ted lived. He also served on the Landscape Committee, the PCM Committee, among others over the years. Ted was a kind-hearted soul. He will be missed.
Ted had an interesting life to say the least. He had been a sailor and spent a lot of time out in the Pacific Ocean. Five times he single-handedly sailed from Newport, OR to Hawaii with only the most basic navigation tools, a sextant and the stars, at his disposal. He had been a Building Inspector in California, a motorcycle police officer in Arizona, a scuba diving instructor in Florida, a maintenance manager at an apartment complex, and reportedly his last paying job was as a medical transport driver for Mercy Hospital right here in Roseburg.
Ted left no survivors and there will be no service. By his wish, his ashes will be scattered in his beloved Pacific Ocean.

“May the skies be blue
and the breezes fair-
The water smooth and clear-
May the sun shine bright,
not a cloud in sight-
On whatever course you steer.
May a pleasant harbor wait for you at the end of every day.

As you sail along life’s way!”
Timber Valley has a small group of talented people that measure our water use on a daily basis. During a recent cold snap, we saw elevated water use, as follows:
Feb. 9……………………….. .9,560 gallons
Feb. 10……………………… 10,200 gallons
Feb. 11 ……………………… 12,240 gallons
Feb. 12 (25 degree low)…….11,985 gallons
Feb. 13 (21 degree low)…….15,015 gallons
Feb. 14………………………. 9,870 gallons
Since the measurement is taken at 1am, a full 24 hr’s use of water is not seen until the
following day. Feb. 13, for example cost us all $77 dollars more than Feb. 14. Why does excessive water use seem to “track” very cold overnight temperatures? We can only
speculate. Since we ALL share in paying for our water use, and it does seem like some are
letting their water run at night to prevent their inlet hose from freezing. This effectively means that those with poorly insulated hoses, are letting others cover the cost of their not being prepared.
Here is how to be better prepared.
1. Cover your water hose with foam pipe insulation or use a heated water hose
2. Insulate the box covering your water hookup
3. Run your propane heater and open cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around
interior pipes.
