July 4th parade, potluck picnic & games in Snoopy’s Meadow – update

The park celebrated July 4th with a golf cart parade, potluck picnic and games (The 4th’s activities were lots of fun).

Parade: Decorated golf cart and started gathering in front of the park office flag pole around 9:30 a.m.  The parade kicked off at 10 a.m., with parade marshal Maxine Riddell and organizer Helaine Hepworth leading the procession through the park. (Estimates are that nearly 20 carts and 4 bicycles … including two clowns … rolled around tossing candy to watchers along the way.)

Potluck picnic and games began at 1 p.m. in Snoopy’s Meadow. (At least 70 folks gathered in the meadow under shade trees, enjoyed a picnic, conversation and games.)

Everyone showed up with a favorite summer potluck side dish to share with their fellow Americans … and brought their own meat to BBQ or one of the Timber Valley Cooking Group’s grill masters helped BBQ it.

Afternoon games included bocce ball, horseshoes, ladder golf and other non-contact sports. As with most SKP picnics, everyone brought their own folding chair, table setting and drink.

People came early to help with setup … and lingered a little longer to help with cleanup. (Thank you everyone who helped.)

Picnic coordinators were Terry and Mike Hilty (# 71).
